The price of student meals is lower than the adult meals because each student meal receives federal and state reimbursements as well as the value of free USDA foods. The adult meal price more accurately reflects the actual cost of the meal.

Free and Reduced Meal Application (The 2010-11 application will be available August 15)

Parents, did you know that any current balance on your child’s Mylunchmoney.com and/or student meal accounts will carry over into the 2010-2011 school year?

In addition, if your child moves up from elementary to middle school, middle to high school or transfers to a different school within the school district, the account balance will follow your child(ren) to their new school too!

Remember, School Nutrition Services policy states that we do not give refunds at the end of the school year.  However, we will be glad to transfer any remaining funds to another student’s account within Henrico County schools.

ANNOUNCEMENT: Carbohydrate Counts New to the Lunch Menu for 2009-2010 school year!
Henrico School Nutrition Services is now providing the total grams of carbohydrates for each food item on the monthly lunch menu.  Carbohydrate is the main nutrient in food that provides energy.  One serving of a carbohydrate is 15g, according to the American Diabetes Association Carbohydrate Exchange List.  Most children should eat about 45-75g of carbohydrates per meal for a balanced diet. The grams listed on the menus are based on standardized HSNS recipes and are dependant upon the portion served.  All cafeteria staff is trained to follow the recipes written.  Total carbohydrates grams will be continually monitored and updated by Francine M. Kerber, RD with Bon Secours Good Life Center.

NONDISCRIMINATION:
“In accordance with Federal law and U.S. Department of Agriculture policy, this institution is prohibited from discriminating on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, sex, or disability.  To file a complaint of discrimination, write USDA, Director, Office of Civil Rights, 1400 Independence Avenue, SW, Washington, DC. 20250-9410 or call (800) 795-3272 or (202) 720-6382 (TTY).  USDA is an equal opportunity provider and employer.”

“All meals served must meet patterns established by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.  However, if a child has been determined by a doctor to be handicapped and the handicap would prevent the child from eating the regular school meal, the school will make substitutions prescribed by a doctor or nurse practitioner.  If a substitution is needed, there will be no extra charge for the meal.  If you have a doctor or nurse practitioners’ order requiring a food substitution because of a handicap, please get in touch with us for further information.”
