All sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students receive academic instruction from a team of four or more teachers in the following areas:
English
Math
Science
Social Studies
Physical Education
ACE
One of the most significant goals of Pocahontas Middle School is to provide a variety of activities and courses to assist the student in discovering areas for future investigation and study throughout the secondary school years. Below are the electives that each grade level offers.
6th Grade Electives
All sixth grade students are required to take reading therefore students are able to enroll in one elective course. Electives in sixth grade may include a series of four nine-week courses in the Exploratory Wheel, or one year long course in either Art, Band, Strings, or Chorus.
Students may choose four of the following courses if they choose the Exploratory Wheel option, these courses include: Technology, Art, Teen Living, Introduction to Foreign Languages, and Keyboarding/Exploring Computers.
7th Grade Electives
Seventh-grade students may choose two electives. The electives can be either full year or semester classes or a combination of both

Eighth-grade students may select two year-long courses from the following electives:

Italicized courses are for high school credit.
High School Credit Courses
Pocahontas students who would like to earn high school credit must take the advanced courses their sixth and seventh grade years. The star represents the courses that require teacher recommendations in which to enroll.
*Algebra I
*Geometry
*World History
*Earth Science
*Art I
Foreign Language (French, Latin, Spanish)
Technology Foundations
If a student takes a high school credit course and wishes the credit be removed from his or her transcript the parent must fill out a form located in the guidance office.
