History of Fairfield

Fairfield Middle School originated as Fairfield Junior High School in 1957. As the school plant was being built on an operating dairy farm, classes were held at several area schools. The existing school plant was opened in 1959. Two additional buildings have been added to the original plan since the opening of the school.

In 1971, the ninth grade was moved to Highland Springs High School.

Several years later the sixth grade was added and the name changed to Fairfield Middle School. The students chose the falcon as the emblem of the school. The school colors are blue and white. Fairfield is one of fourteen middle schools in Henrico County, Virginia.
