Henrico County Public Schools provides opportunities for all students to be involved in extracurricular student activities. Through Student Council, athletic teams, performing groups, clubs, or academic-competition teams, students learn valuable skills such as responsibility, teamwork, problem solving, critical thinking and leadership.
National studies and research indicate that:

Participation in athletics and activities promotes citizenship;

Students involved in activities have higher grade point averages than do non-participants;

Students involved in activities have better attendance records than do non-participants;

And participation in school activities is one of the most accurate predictors of success throughout life
HCPS is proud of numerous local, district, regional, state, national, and international recognitions. Henrico schools athletic teams have won over 75 Virginia High School League (VHSL) state championships in varsity sports. Destination Imagination, Academic Competition, Knowledge Master Open, and First Robotics teams have won numerous state and international competitions. We congratulate our students and teams.
We believe that "Student Activities is the Third Curriculum." This philosophy correlates to Henrico County Public Schools' Mission to "inspire and empower students to become contributing citizens." This theme also relates to the HCPS Strategic Plan, Goal 2, which states: "All students will develop life skills for individual success and total well-being.”
