Secondary Schools Interim Report Policy Change

The School Board recently approved a change to policy P6-08-001, Report Cards/Interim Reports.  The new language states that, “At the secondary level, parents and students receive updates on scholastic progress via HCPSLink. All teachers will make parental contact for each student who is not being successful in a class at the interim of each marking period.”

The result of this updated policy is that middle and high schools will no longer print and distribute written Interim Reports each nine weeks.  The purpose of Interim Reports is to present an accurate update on student progress at the midway point of each nine week marking period.  HCPSLink usage by secondary students and parents has made Interim Reports obsolete for the following reasons:

  • HCPSLink provides a weekly update of student grades that can be checked by parents and students anytime.
  • 95% of students and parents check HCPSLink on a regular basis
  • Teachers are required to update HCPSLink weekly
  • HCPSLink is more current than Interim Reports which often take 7 to 14 days to upload, verify, print and distribute.

This change in policy reflects HCPS’ commitment to providing 21st century communication to parents and students.  This change will also save teachers’ time and the district money by using less paper.

If you have questions or need assistance with HCPSLink please contact your child’s school.
