Supplemental Educational Services (SES) provides additional academic assistance, such as tutoring and remediation, free to students in the subjects of reading, language arts, social studies, science and math and may be provided before or after school.
A list of providers offering these services in Henrico County may be found at: https://p1pe.doe.virginia.gov/ses/index.jsp
School Choice
No Child Left Behind requires schools to meet Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) goals each year in reading/language arts and mathematics. Adams Elementary and Highland Springs Elementary are fully accredited and made AYP for 2010-2011, but must continue in to offer School Choice until they maintain required academic performance for two consecutive years. During the upcoming school year, our teachers will continue to focus on the individual needs of each child in order to increase the academic performance of all students.
Additionally, the Virginia Department of Education is working with Henrico County Public Schools (HCPS) to improve the academic performance of the schools and parents are encouraged to participate. To find out how you can support HCPS in these efforts, please attend parent meetings and volunteer in your child’s school.
As part of Public School Choice, HCPS is required to offer the opportunity to transfer your child/children to participating schools that are not identified in School Improvement; however, you are not required to move your child. These schools are designated as “receiving schools.”
