Title I provides children an enriched and accelerated educational program, including the use of schoolwide programs or additional services that increase the amount and quality of instructional time. Funding is used to secure qualified staff that provides effective instructional strategies to address the individual needs of eligible students and to strengthen the core academic programs through researched-based staff development approaches. Title I is currently serving students and their families in 19 of the 45 elementary schools in the areas of reading and/or math, also serving additional three schools in the area of early childhood.

There are two models of Title I services, schoolwide and targeted assistance. In a schoolwide model, eligible Title I schools may use Title I funds in combination with other federal, state and local funds to enhance their educational program. All students are eligible for Title I services.
A targeted assistance model provides supplemental services to students in identified grade levels. Each participating school must assist the identified students in meeting the state’s proficient advanced level of performance by coordinating Title I funds with funds received from other sources.
Schools providing either the schoolwide or targeted assistance model must review, on an ongoing basis, the progress of participating students. The program operates with students’ individual needs as the major focus and encourages parental involvement.
