Parental Involvement

Henrico County Public Schools Federal Programs is committed to providing educational, health, nutritional and social services to at risk children and their families.  Parents are supported as they identify and meet their own goals and nurture the development of their children in the context of their family and culture.  Federal Programs works to actively involve parents and others from the community.  The staff strives to develop partnerships with parents by communicating regularly to create awareness of the student’s needs at school and a shared plan for success.  Title I and Preschool staff work collaboratively in each school to provide opportunities for parental involvement.

Each school that receives funding from Federal Programs is required to have a School Parent Advisory Committee (SPAC), which is comprised of parents who work with the Federal Programs staff to determine the needs of the parents, families and the community at the school.  The purpose of the parent council is to promote the involvement of parents in the planning, implementation and evaluation of federal programs and projects offered by Henrico County Public Schools. One goal of the council is to increase male parental involvement through the fatherhood initiative.  The SPAC members from each school also have the opportunity to participate in the Henrico Federal Programs Advisory Council (HFPAC).  The HFPAC is composed of parent representatives from all Title I schools, the Federal Programs Coordinator, Preschool Coordinator and the Parent Involvement Coordinator.  The HFPAC identifies needs of schools, students and parents through meetings, workshops and school visits.  Collectively, the goal is to offer parents an opportunity to be actively engaged in the use of federal funds to support schools.
