Frequently Asked Questions In an effort to better serve you, we have listed below some of the questions you, our community, are asking most often. As always, we invite and encourage you to call and discuss other questions and ideas that you might have. What is the name of the school? Deep Run High School, named after Deep Run School in celebration of Henrico County's 300 year old tradition of excellence in education. Deep Run School was one of the earliest schools in Henrico County-in fact, the original structure can now be found on the grounds of Short Pump Elementary school. While the new Deep Run High School will be different in so many ways from that early schoolhouse (think laptops!), every student can expect to receive the same attention to their education that students felt in that two-room schoolhouse. Where is the school located? Deep Run High School is located at 4801 Twin Hickory Road in Glen Allen, Virginia. We’re off Twin Hickory Road between Nuckols and Pouncey Tract Roads in the northwestern corner of Henrico County. For those familiar with Twin Hickory Elementary school, the high school is directly across the street. How many students does the new high school have, and from where do they come? We currently have just over 1700 students enrolled in grades 9-12. For school boundaries, please see the link on our website to the HCPS school boundaries web page. What kinds of courses are offered to students at the new high school? We offer the full range of courses available to all high school students in Henrico County Public Schools. Our courses include a wide range of college prep, honors, and AP courses across eight curriculum departments, including English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Foreign Language, Health and PE, Exceptional Education, and Fine Arts. In what kinds of athletics and activities are students able to participate? At Deep Run High School, we will build champions both in the classroom and beyond. Students are able to participate in a full range of athletic activities. We currently offer sports at both the Junior Varsity and Varsity level, including Football, Soccer, Basketball, Baseball, Softball, Tennis, Golf, Gymnastics, Track and Field, Volleyball, Cross Country, and Cheerleading. In addition, a full range of activities from which students may choose are available. These include curricular activities (marching band, select choir programs, language study clubs), all VHSL sponsored activities (e.g., drama, debate, publications), and activities driven by student interest and leadership (SCA, NHS, Beta, DECA, etc.). Is there a Specialty Center? Yes, the Center for Information Technology. For more information about the Specialty Center, visit our site. |
