Description of Gifted Resource Teacher Roles:
Mrs. Amy Jamieson-Carter is the Primary Itinerant Gifted Resource Teacher who serves our school one day per week. With the implementation of the 2011-2016 Gifted Education Plan, her primary role continues to be providing services for identified gifted K-3 students and/or consulting with their classroom teachers. In addition, she will support the overall instructional program within the school by using student data to determine the instructional needs of primary students when she is at our school.
Mrs. Jamieson-Carter will also be instrumental in assisting the school's Gifted Identification Coordinator and classroom teachers with the implementation of the revised gifted identification process. With the change this year in criteria we will also be reconsidering a number of students so please understand the vastly increased amount of time she will likely be spending in screening, referral, and collection of student information above and beyond what has been traditional in the past during this transition year.
Parent Forums
Dear Parent(s): The Henrico County Public School division is pleased to share that the implementation of our 2011-2016 Gifted Plan approved by the school board has been enormously successful. There has been an increase in the number of student's screened and identified for gifted education. While this is an outstanding accomplishment for our division and serves our goal of realizing and supporting the potential of all students, it also requiresthat we plan effectively for delivering services to all of these students.
Our Gifted Advisory Council, composed of parents, teachers, administration and school board representatives has reviewed the data and our current delivery models. The Gifted Advisory Committee developed several proposals for expanding the program to meet the needs of all gifted students. These proposals were then subsequently reviewed by the elementary gifted staff and principals for input and revision. The revised proposals will be posted for public comment by HCPS parents. In addition, HCPs will hold two public forums for parents to review the proposals and provide input.

TES Food Plan
At Tuckahoe Elementary School, we strive to provide everyday a safe and healthy environment in which every child will learn. Schools should not only help to teach children how to make safe and healthy choices, but they also should provide an environment that fosters healthy eating. As we all know there has been a rise in our society of childhood obesity, juvenile diabetes, and food allergies. In order to keep everyone safe and healthy, we will implement the following food guidelines at Tuckahoe Elementary School.
Guidelines for the 2010-2011 school year:
- Food will not be used as a reward. Rewarding children in the classroom or during other school events need not involve candy or other foods that can undermine children’s diet and health and reinforce unhealthful eating habits. A wide variety of alternative rewards can be used to provide positive reinforcement for children’s behavior and academic performance.
- Birthday Celebrations. We welcome parents and family members to have lunch with their child his/her birthday. However, due to health and safety concerns, cupcakes or other food treats will not be shared with classmates. Cupcakes and other treats sent in for a child’s birthday will be taken to the office and a parent will be contacted. The birthday child will be recognized in his/her classroom and he/she will be recognized in the main office with a birthday pencil, a birthday ribbon and the birthday song. A parent may donate a “birthday book” to our school’s library in honor of his/her child. Details regarding a birthday book may be obtained from our school librarian.
- Food may be brought into the school to support the one county approved party (winter party). Room parents will work the classroom teacher and parents regarding special dietary needs.
- Prior to the activity, the principal or assistant principal must approve food used to support instructional themes. If a student has a particular sensitivity to a food product, then the teacher will work with parents of that child or the room parents to determine how an activity can safely be organized.
