About Us

 Maybeury Elementary School

Maybeury Elementary School, located on Maybeury Drive in western Henrico County, was designed by J. Henley Walker and constructed by Bay Construction, Inc. at a cost of $528,854. It was built on a 12.6-acre plat that cost $28,451.

Maybeury opened on September 10, 1958. It was dedicated on May 18, 1959, when School Superintendent George H. Moody presented the keys to Mr. B.T. Doyle, Jr., Maybeury's first principal. Mr. Doyle remained at Maybeury as principal until 1962 at which time he became principal of J.R. Tucker High School. Dr. Charles C. Todd Jr. was Maybeury's second principal. He served from 1962 to 1965 when he became Director of Personnel and Director of Federal Projects in Charlottesville.

In 1965, Mr. Floyd L.Mitchell came to Maybeury as its third principal. Mr. Mitchell remained at Maybeury until June 1986 when he retired. For twenty-one years he served Maybeury well as a strong administrator and a nurturing individual.

Maybeury's fourth principal, Ronald W. Odom, came in July, 1986. He served as principal of Jackson Davis Elementary before coming to Maybeury. Mrs. Robin T. Exton, the fifth principal, came to Maybeury in 1997 after serving as principal of Three Chopt Elementary School. She left in 2004 and was replaced by Mr. Eric Armbruster, who is our current principal.

Maybeury Elementary School will mark its 50th year of existence during the 2007-2008 school year. It has a long history of providing outstanding education and a nurturing environment. Maybeury continues to be on the leading edge of educational excellence because of the dedication and hard work of its teachers, administrative leaders, staff members, parents and of course, its students.
