Principal's Message

Welcome to Dumbarton Elementary’s website and thank you for taking the time to visit us today.  There is a wealth of information on the attached pages so please take time to look at the links.  There are so many exciting things happening at Dumbarton and we are truly looking forward to implementing our 2011-2012 theme, “Looking Back with Pride and Forward with Enthusiasm!”  This is the 40th anniversary of our current building and now we are enthusiastically awaiting the completion of our addition.  A celebration is being planned for the fall to recognize both the current school and the addition. Please look for information about the changes that will occur as a result of our addition and renovations.

Throughout the past year, our staff, students, and PTA continued to excel in many areas.  Dumbarton continues to be fully accredited and the preliminary results of the spring SOL scores are excellent.  We received two Henrico 21 Awards recognizing 21st century skills of both our teachers and students and again, we received the Governor’s Competence to Excellence Award.  Our PTA also received two awards for a 53% increase in membership and for Outstanding Achievement.  In addition, Tamsyn Stewart, did an excellent job representing Henrico County as the Teacher of the Year.

All of the above listed accomplishments would not be possible without parent support and a dedicated and determined staff.  As a parent, I encourage you to get involved in your child’s school.  It’s a gift that will reap many rewards for both you and your child.  If you’re not sure how to go about getting involved, please contact me by phone or send me an email.

In conclusion, I want you to know what a privilege it is to be the leader of Dumbarton Elementary, and I truly believe that we have a staff who helps each child in our diverse population achieve success each day.  We hope you will become a part of our community as we celebrate our diversity.  In keeping with our theme, “Looking Back with Pride and Forward with Enthusiasm, “ I truly hope you will get involved in your child’s education and attend our school and PTA activities celebrating the past and present.  Enjoy the rest of your summer and I look forward to seeing you on Thursday, September 1st for Open House and Tuesday, September 6th for the First Day of School.

    With Wildcat Pride and Enthusiasm,

    Eileen Traveline
