HCPS RSS News Feeds
About RSS feeds
Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is a format for distributing and gathering content from sources across the web, including newspapers, magazines, and blogs. Web publishers use RSS to easily create and distribute news feeds that include headlines, summaries, and links to full articles. RSS feeds are free, and HCPS currently offers one feed.
How to view feeds from HCPS
Click on the orange "RSS" button to access the corresponding feed. You will begin receiving any up-to-date news, features, public service annoucements, and exciting updates from Henrico County Public Schools.
Ways to access RSS feeds:
- Web Browsers
Most recent versions of web browsers, like Internet Explorer 7, Firefox 3, and Safari 3, have a built-in reader that allows you to view and manage RSS feeds. A web site offers a feed if it shows an RSS icon in either the address bar or toolbar. When you click on the icon, the browser will display the feed and give you the option to subscribe. - Dedicated Readers
You can install a reader that displays RSS feeds from the web sites you select, enabling you to view hundreds of headlines at once. After installing, you can add each feed manually by clicking on the orange "RSS" button next to the feed. - Online Readers
An alternative to installing a dedicated RSS reader is to use a web-based reader. For example, Google, My Yahoo!, and My MSN users can now add RSS feeds directly to their personal page. An account is usually required for this feature.
How do I get a news reader?
There is a range of different news readers available and new versions are appearing all the time.Different news readers work on different operating systems, so you will need to choose one that will work with your computer.

How is RSS different than an e-mail newsletter?
E-mail newsletters are usually delivered at a time chosen by the publisher. RSS gives you more control by always being available and staying updated. Another advantage RSS has over e-mail is that you don't have to supply an e-mail address to get the content.
